Looking For

Bass Player, Female Vocalist with emotional range (but will consider male vocalists, too), Lead Guitar (possibly.)

Bio

I'm a composer/songwriter in my early 30s, and have just finished writing 12 songs for a debut alt/art rock LP that I want to put together in the next 6 months. I am a good-natured guy, but very serious about finding some fantastic, DRIVEN musicians to put this together. These songs and my style have been brewing and developing for some time, and I'm genuinely excited about what I've created. I am biased of course, but feel like I have actually stumbled onto something here, and it's time to put it all together.

The overall sonic landscape/production style I am going for is something raw, sharp, visceral, present, and NOVEL-SOUNDING. I am considering recording the album live (overdubbed vocals, though, probably) to harness that energy lacking in most multi-tracked productions. The songs are a mix of many styles, but I suppose you could call it modal alt/art rock. I use a variety of altered tunings to get interesting harmonies and progressions, and for the music nerds out there, I move at lot of modal chord shapes around the fretboard with open pedal strings. Think Jeff Buckley/flamenco guitar technique meets Radiohead-esque song structures with a Smashing Pumpkins sensibility.

I'm looking for a bass player with chops, of course, but someone who is musical and tasteful, who knows how to sit out a bar or two and create space when it benefits the song (think Colin Greenwood from Radiohead). It would be great if you're musically literate in the traditional sense and can read charts, but if all you have is a great ear, that works too, of course!

And since I can't sing to the best of my knowledge, I've always had a female vocalist in mind for this project. If you aren't opposed to singing someone else's lyrics and melodies (thought I am of course open to melodic ideas you have, as well!), I'd love to hear from you. I'm looking for a mezzo-soprano range, ideally, but am open to fielding inquiries from anyone who is interested. If you're male and this interests you, I'm open to hearing from you, too.

If you are a lead guitarist and this project sounds interesting to you, please contact me, as well. I am already working with a very talented percussionist, and would like to see how things develop with him for a while...

Looking forward to hearing from everyone.
